Bookshare is free for all U.S. students with qualifying disabilities. Student memberships are currently funded by an award from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Use this form to confirm the student has a qualifying disability and send the form to Janet Rascoe Strebel. Please read this document which outlines the process for staff to follow to request that a student becomes eligible for materials from Bookshare.

What about textbooks for K12 and what is the NIMAC?

NOTE: If you use a Mac, you will need this application to unzip the password protected book files from Bookshare.


  • Add your students to your Quicklist so you don't have to search through the entire district membership
  • Be sure to check out your personal preferences on your Bookshare account when logged in.
  • Use .bks2 format and files will automatically open in Victor Reader Soft for blind and low vision students
